Saddle Up for Scottsdale 2017: American Horse Publications Equine Media Seminar

The 2017 American Horse Publications Equine Media Seminar with its theme, Saddle Up for Scottsdale, lived up to all of my expectations and more. I attended sessions moderated and led by industry professionals on re-charging and re-inventing my freelance business, think tanks on topics ranging from re-purposing content to technology innovations, and even one on improving the business side of my blog. The sponsors were generous. I shipped home from Scottsdale a 33 lb box full of AHP swag. The silent auction was amazing.

But perhaps most importantly, I established a network with authors, recognized and beginners alike, along with editors, photographers, and other equine industry professionals. These individuals not only welcomed me with open arms but have been willing to share me their tips for success as they have firmly established themselves in this one of a kind industry. In this week’s blog post I thought to share with you all about my amazing journey.

The conference was held at the Double Tree Resort by Hilton Hotel Paradise Valley-Scottsdale. For more information on the hotel you can visit their website at Double Tree Resort. The setting could not have been more perfect. If I ever visit Scottsdale again I will definitely stay here. Below are a couple of photographs taken outside the hotel and from our room.

A pre-conference activity that I signed up for was a Cowboy Mounted Shooting Clinic. See last week’s blog post for full coverage of this fun and adrenaline filled adventure:

The conference, though loads of fun, wasn’t always about work. I took my husband with me and we enjoyed a little vacation time during the off hours and by extending our stay for a few days. One of our side trips was the McDowell Sonoran Conservancy, a beautiful park like area near Scottsdale that came highly recommended. For more on the beautiful area check out their website here: McDowell Sonoran Conservancy.

Below are a few of our photographs from this rugged, desert area:

After we left this breathtaking park area we drove around a bit looking for some of the Arabian horse farms that I was familiar with. As we did so, we came upon this gorgeous statue:

We also visited the very unique Old Town Scottsdale. If you ever visit Scottsdale this is THE place to go. You can check out more about it by visiting the website I’m providing here: Old Town Scottsdale . There are plenty of great restaurants and things to do and see. My husband and I had a lot of fun goofing around here despite the heat that was extreme even for Arizona this time of the year. Check out these photographs of our goofiness:

You can see from the photographs that it’s worth the visit. There’s beautiful statues and some amusement to be had at the authentic and not to be missed Rusty Spur Saloon.

In short, we had a fabulous trip. I am definitely looking forward to reconnecting the friendships that I made as well as visiting a new city at next year’s AHP Equine Media Seminar!
